RUN REPORT – RUN 32 (HST 11) – 14 NOV 19

Aim

  • Profile 11, 350 mph, reheat accel with AB out.

Set-up

  • Track 18, Km 9, southbound.
  • 31C, 924 mb, sunny. Wind 1-3 o/c 5G10.
  • Fuel full.

Run Details

  • 1215 local. Slick start team work with the AST, good engine start at 50 sec, total engine running 16 min.
  • Mach No reading 0.12 before start, then appeared to be correct throughout, finishing at M=0 to 0.01 at the end.
  • Reheat accel to 353 mph peak. Car fairly stable throughout the run, with a weave close to peak speed, probably due to a gust.
  • Idle coast down, Car still doing 120 mph with 0.5 mile to go to turn, so brakes applied at 110 to ensure slow speed by the turn point.
  • Slightly tight W-turn, Car stopped into wind.
  • No further running due to gusting crosswind.
  • L brake 130C after braking from 110 to below 50 mph. AMAD peak 75C.

Summary

A successful 350 mph airbrake run.  The Car appears fairly responsive to crosswinds with the airbrakes out, but remains controllable within the current limit of 10 mph.

Procedural Points

  • No radio calls (except for emergencies) until Bloodhound has called ‘Stopped’.

Technical Points

  • Dust ingress into the cockpit from the canopy/monocoque join.
  • Significant bump felt in the decel, at about Km 13, to be investigated.
