Aim
- Idle engine check post installation.
- Profile 10, 200 mph, dry power, with AB out.
- Profile 7, 550 mph. Test modified chute 1 (2x150lb tie).
Run Set-up
- Track 23, Km 9, southbound.
- 25C, 925 mb, sunny. Wind 1-2 o/c 3-8 mph.
- Fuel full.
Run Details
- 0910 local. Engine start just achieved at about 59 sec, after slightly slow application of air. Idle achieved but after a few seconds the engine shut down again. Incomplete fuel priming assumed, restart attempted.
- Second start good, 51 sec, total engine running 17 min.
- Mach No reading 0.12 at start up, wound up during run, finished at around Mach 0.8 and fluctuating at the end of the
- Dry power accel to ~210 mph. Car fairly stable throughout the run, with a slight weave in a gentle crosswind from the right.
- Idle coast down, Car slow speed at 2.0 miles run, as predicted. Car driven to end, turned and positioned for second start.
- Once stopped, engine idle was elevated 3-4%, apparently associated with elevated Mach No indications. Recovery told to step back from the Car while this was investigated, including confirmation of throttle control. Recovery cleared in again once idle RPM confirmed to be reasonably stable.
- Second run cancelled to enable software fix for Mach No calculations.
- AMAD peak 95C, L brake 75C after slow-speed braking.
Summary
A successful shakedown after splitting the Car and dropping the engine, with one sensor problem identified, all other systems appear to be working as expected. The Car handles reasonably well with airbrakes out at low speeds.
Procedural Points
- Focus on crisp timing for AST during start sequence.
Technical Points
- Erroneous Mach No indications.
- Car comms improved with new microphone. Background clicking during Car transmissions is more noticeable, but workable.
